Following the success of Climb for Climate Change in 2021, Cody and Megan completed their second challenge over the Easter long weekend of 2022 to raise funds for a new heat pump for the Gibsons Heritage Playhouse, and to support the activities of the Nature Trust of BC.
Cody and Megan spent 100 hours up on a scissor lift, splitting their time between two locations in Sechelt and Gibsons. They played games, read and sang to keep themselves occupied. More than 50 locals, from restaurants, businesses and individual volunteers, helped the Kelsos complete their mission. At night, they slept beneath a tarp to stay dry and warm.
Their aim was to raise funds for two Sunshine Coast causes important to Cody: the Gibsons Heritage Playhouse and the Nature Trust of BC. After four long days and three nights in the elements, the “Elevate for the Environment” challenge raised more than $18,150 of its $30,000 goal, with the help of grants from the Sunshine Coast Credit Union and the Gibsons Rotary. Sunshine Coast Community Forest provided a grant directly to the Heritage House for $21,500 for the heat pump.
